As the Church celebrates the Year of Consecrated Life (November 30, 2014 – February 2, 2016), the seminarians and Theology students of DBCS have organized a Re-Concert – i.e. a recollection in concert form – to promote greater awareness of the realities of seminary and consecrated life and raise funds for their education at the same time.
Dubbed as Broadway in Another Way, the show features popular songs selected from Broadway hits and classics including Les Miserables, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Pippin, and Carousel, which will be sung to highlight various aspects of the seminarian’s life and the realities of their journey toward priesthood.
The objective is to help promote a better sense of the Church by inviting lay people to learn more about the joys, sorrows, struggles, sacrifices, and rewards of leaving one’s family and worldly ambitions to follow Christ. By doing so, it is hoped that viewers will be able to relate with the experiences of those who entered consecrated life and realize that while there are different vocations and states of life in the Church, the path to holiness makes similar demands on all of us.
As a Re-Concert, the approximately two-hour show is both an opportunity to reflect with the Lord and be entertained at the same time. It will be held on December 12, 2015, Saturday, at the Mother Rose Auditorium of the Assumption College San Lorenzo Village, Makati City with a matinee at 3:00 pm and the gala at 7:00 pm. It features Capax Dei, the 23-man DBCS choir and the production is led by Fr Renan Michael La Guardia, SDB, overall director, with Br Marlon Allam, SP as musical director.
Funds generated by the concert will be used to support the education of seminarians from 11 congregations including the Salesians of Don Bosco, The Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus, Servants of the Paraclete, Order of Friars Minor Conventual, Military Ordinariate of the Philippines, Sacred Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Redemptoris Mater, Order of the Servants of Mary, Franciscans of Our Lady of the Poor, and the Diocese of Paranaque. Tickets are sold at PhP1,500 for the first 10 rows, and at PhP1,000 for the rest of the seats including the balcony.
Broadway in Another Way is a project under the Office of the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs, Fr Crisostomo Magbitang, SDB. It is the second concert organized by the DBCS students, the first being Ano ang Gagawin Mo Ngayong Pasko? (What will you do this Christmas?), which was held in December 2014 at DBCS, Paranaque City to raise funds for the school library.
Major sponsors of the event include Assumption College San Lorenzo, House of Wagyu Stone Grill, Thousand Oaks Packaging Corp., International Observatory of Young Catholics, and Ayala.
