In a pastoral statement dated January 30, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) expressed great concern over the “deaths and killings in the campaign against prohibited drugs.” While recognizing that the country needs to overcome the problem of illegal drugs, the CBCP also stated that the solution must always “be guided by truth and justice.”

The CBCP urged Filipinos especially Catholics to not be indifferent or silent in the face of this grave situation. And noted that “we in the Church will continue to speak against evil even as we acknowledge and repent of our own shortcomings.”
